Frequently asked questions
1. What is NLP?
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) is a practical approach to understanding how your thoughts, language, and behaviours interact.
It focuses on identifying unhelpful patterns and installing more resourceful ones so you can achieve specific outcomes in areas like confidence, communication, performance, and relationships.
3. How is NLP coaching different from therapy
NLP focuses on:
- The present and future
- Goals and performance
- Strategy and action
- Diagnosing mental health conditions
- Processing past trauma
- Clinical treatment
NLP coaching is not therapy, does not diagnose, and does not replace medical or psychological treatment.
5. How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your goal.
Clarity can be gained in 1- 2 sessions, however, most clients spend around 5 sessions to work on major life areas (relationships/career/money/health etc)
For athletes and sport professionals, working on peak performance generally takes 5 sessions.
7. Is NLP scientifically proven?
The creators of NLP (Richard Bandler and John Grinder) never claimed NLP was a science. Instead, they made it very clear that NLP is a model (comprising of various language patterns, models and tools) and that these models and patterns can be used in modelling excellence in any field.
Just like the English language is not a science, but more of a model of language comprising of various parts with multiple influences, we use the English language effectively every single day.
From the onset, Bandler and Grinder were interested only in what works and produces results. They were not interested in elaborate psychology theories.
Therefore, they only kept and used the NLP patterns and models that consistently produced results with clients. If they were not getting results, they scrapped the pattern or the model. As a result, the patterns and models that have survived, and that are used in NLP today, are the ones that have consistently produced results.
